Data centre specialist Flexenclosure has completed its third data centre order from a Millicom group company. The construction of this eCentre in Bogotá was carried out for Colombian telecommunications company TigoUne.
Flexenclosure entered Latin America in 2016 when it constructed a data centre for Millicom’s Tigo Business Paraguay. The facility was the first professional colocation facility in the country and the first Uptime Institute Tier III certified prefabricated data centre built anywhere across the continent. The new TigoUne installation is also a Tier III facility, but at 770sqm, it is twice the size of the Paraguay data centre and the first of its kind in Colombia.
“This is our first project in Colombia, our second eCentre deployment in Latin America and our third data centre project with Millicom,” said David King, CEO, Flexenclosure. “We are delighted to have won the confidence of TigoUne to deliver this state-of-the art facility, and in doing so to expand our relationship with the Millicom group and reinforce our commitment to the Latin American market.”
TigoUne will use the facility to integrate services such as cloud servers, applications, storage, backup and recovery, collocation, virtual desks, cybersecurity, IoT, big data and analytics and cloud environments – both private and public or hybrid. The eCentre – a custom-designed, prefabricated data centre building – was prefabricated at Flexenclosure’s factory in Sweden and shipped to Colombia where final assembly and commissioning has now been completed.
Flexenclosure is no stranger to the deployment of data centres in the most challenging of environments. In this case, at 2,640 meters above sea level, the high-altitude deployment placed special demands on the design of the cooling and power equipment due to the lower air density, with the systems needing to be de-rated accordingly.
Flexenclosure was founded in 1989. The company is based in Vara, Sweden, headquartered in Stockholm and has additional offices in Malaysia, Mexico, Myanmar, Nigeria and South Africa. Customers include ACS, Airtel, Apollo Towers, IHS Towers, Millicom, MTN, Vodacom and Zain.
