Schneider Electric’s new 6U wall mount and cybersecurity solution have been designed for the edge

At Innovation Summit Barcelona, Schneider Electric has announced two new solutions that it believes will solve the common challenges associated with edge computing. The first is a new EcoStruxure Micro Data Center C-Series 6U Wall Mount, which boasts a low-profile design making it 60% less intrusive than a traditional wall mount enclosure, while still allowing large edge servers to be mounted. The second is an enhanced cybersecurity solution.

Given the value of real estate inside a data centre, maximising on floorspace is a key objective for many firms. With Schneider’s latest wall mount, not only will operators take advantage of the smaller form factor, but they will also benefit from the scalable and configurable design that is common on every EcoStruxure product.

“With the EcoStruxure Micro Data Center 6U Wall Mount’s creative design and functionality, we are able to open up new possibilities to deploy resilient IT at the edge, making digital transformation a reality,” said Jim Simonelli, SVP emerging businesses, Secure Power Division, Schneider Electric.

“No one else can provide the full, standardised IT infrastructure solutions that Schneider can along with the partner ecosystem to ensure simplified deployment and compatibility. A fully integrated EcoStruxure Data Center Solution, including EcoStruxure IT and Asset Advisor 24/7 remote monitoring and services, ensures resiliency in the cloud and at the edge.”

Schneider Electric’s 6U wall mount allows large, heavy edge servers, networking equipment, and the UPS to be safely mounted on a wall, and consumes zero floor space. Shock packaging means partners and integrators can pre-install IT for quick and standardised rollouts, and its integrated dust filter and fan ventilation make it ideal for light industrial environments.

Enhanced cybersecurity

In addition to being able to maximise every square inch of a data centre with the new wall mount, Schneider Electric is also rolling out its new Device Security Vulnerability Assessment to beef up security and defend against cyberattacks. This new feature forms part of Schneider’s cloud-based monitoring and management software, EcoStruxure IT Expert, and should reduce the risk of a security breach and save time by helping users determine threats and engage in preventive measures sooner.

The Device Security Vulnerability Assessment will work with all Schneider Electric connected devices, while it should work with third-party manufacturers in the future as part of a software update.
