GS Yuasa to showcase world’s first containerised dual-chemical energy storage system at DCW

GS Yuasa Battery Sales UK Ltd will showcase a dual-chemical energy storage solution at this year’s Data Centre World at ExCel, London on March 11 and 12, claimed to be a world’s first.

The containerised solution combines GS Yuasa’s lead acid and Lithium-ion battery technology to feed a power conversion system. Both unique and self-contained, the system is designed to be easily integrated into any renewable energy micro-grid configuration. It was developed in partnership with Infinite Group, the University of Sheffield and Innovate UK.

The energy storage solution has been constructed and installed at GS Yuasa’s battery manufacturing facility in Ebbw Vale, South Wales. The unit can store and control the release of locally generated renewable energy back into the grid.

A scale model of the container will take centre stage on the GS Yuasa stand alongside a smaller dual-chemical battery system. Despite being only the size of a filing cabinet, the smaller system provides 300kW of power and is designed to be a convenient alternative to VRLA powered UPS systems for data centre and other critical standby power applications.

The battery manufacturer’s Yu-Power battery monitoring system will also be on display. The package, launched at Data Centre World in 2019, monitors both temperature and voltage to determine if a battery system is operating within recommended guidelines.

2020 marks the sixth consecutive year GS Yuasa has attended Data Centre World. Mark Greer, general sales manager – Reserve and Renewable Power Division at GS Yuasa Battery Sales (UK) Ltd, said: “Data Centre World is an important exhibition for us so we’re understandably excited to be returning this year.

“Our containerised dual-chemical battery system is the result of a collaborative project to create an environmentally-conscious energy storage solution. As the need to move towards greener energy solutions increases, we’re pleased to introduce a viable and easily-integrable solution. GS Yuasa batteries are used in deep sea submarines, the International Space Station and a wide range of applications in between. Our presence at Data Centre World allows us to showcase our latest products and highlight the characteristics of our high-quality battery ranges for uninterruptible power supply applications to the industry.”

Data Centre World London takes place on March 11 and 12 at ExCel, London. You can find GS Yuasa on stand D245.
