Basefarm, a European managed service provider, has appointed Petter M. Tømmeraas as senior vice president for Basefarm’s data centre business.
After four years at Green Mountain, Petter M. Tømmeraas will now focus on continuing to build on Basefarm’s successful data centre business area, where one single organisation is supplying both data centre colocation services and enterprise-critical operations support.
“Many companies are moving away from managing their own IT operations and infrastructure and instead are looking to use external partners with expertise in areas like cloud services and big data to operate their enterprise-critical IT. This trend makes my new job very exciting,” said Tømmeraas.
“Because Basefarm is more than a fixed supplier of data centre services, we can take over and automate operational tasks and keep costs under control and have a flexible infrastructure than a standard colocation supplier.”
“We rarely see customers looking for only colocation today, although we are of course happy to provide that service as well, and for many it’s only a matter of time before they also start using managed cloud services. Transitioning to Basefarm as a supplier of mission critical, hybrid cloud solutions is really quick,” continued Tømmeraas.
“With regards to the market we are addressing we are seeing interest from a lot of players at the moment. The hyperscalers and other global players are looking for good partners to set up edge data centres, service providers are increasingly moving into large colocation facilities and the enterprise market has mostly stopped building their own data centres at a high cost, to focus more on their own solutions and services, instead of having to focus on power, cooling and physical security,” concluded Tømmeraas.
Tømmeraas has a bachelor’s degree in international business with a major in economics, administration, law and international marketing. Since 1998, he has worked in the fields of IT and telecommunication services, in which data centre services have always been an integral part of this spectrum of services. Before joining Basefarm in February 2018 Tømmeraas worked as chief sales officer at Green Mountain.
