R&M opens new fibre optic production facility in India

R&M, a globally active developer and provider of cabling systems for high-quality network infrastructures, based in Wetzikon, Switzerland, has inaugurated its state-of-the-art production hub in a sprawling facility in Bangalore, India.

This manufacturing facility is built under the ‘Make in India’ initiative, a step towards the government’s vision to create sustainable competitiveness and prosperity. The new facility is dedicated to production, warehousing and production of fibre optic solutions for data centres and FTTx applications.

Opening the production facility is another milestone in deepening our commitment to India. This announcement reaffirms R&M’s long-term commitment to India, a strategic location for digitisation, innovation and technology.”

The new plant in Bangalore will also play a cornerstone within our international production network to increase the overall flexibility and competitiveness of R&M worldwide.”

The opening ceremony was witnessed by over 250 business partners and customers who have contributed and played crucial role in R&M’s successful journey in South Asia. The inauguration started with prayer rituals in Indian customs and traditions.

The ceremony of the production facility took place in the presence of the chief executive officer, Sterlite Technologies Limited, Mr. KS Rao; the CEO & consul general (Swissnex India, consulate general of Switzerland, Bangalore, his honorary Mr. Sebastien Hug. Besides, Michel Riva, CEO, Markus Stieger, COO and Amestoy Laurent, executive vice president SR APAC were part of the ceremony.

Beaming with pride and confidence on the new initiative, Gaurav Ahluwalia, managing director at R&M India said, “Opening a production facility in India means that 2018 will be characterised by huge expansion in production capacities, where over 400 highly qualified employees will be producing fibre optics solutions in accordance with the high R&M quality standards. With the Bangalore site R&M India is looking forward to stepping up production in the coming days. This is a new chapter of growth and expansion.”

According to an AMI Partners research, the highest growth market for structured cabling in APAC is India at 46% closely followed by China at 37.5%. R&M’s choice of investment in India is driven by these growth projections along with India being strategically positioned as a regional delivery hub.
