Swiss data centre operator Green is building a data centre campus in the district of Dielsdorf, Zürich.
The campus will comprise three data centres – M, N and O – the first of which, M, was occupied in December 2022. It has now officially gone into operation.
Data centre M offers 5,600 m2 of data centre space, with room for around 80,000 servers.
Green has said that it designed the data centres with high power density in mind, while at the same time optimising energy efficiency.
“Data centre M is a flagship project in terms of energy efficiency and sustainability,” said COO Andrea Campomilla, who is responsible for Green’s data centres.
M’s cooling system has been optimised to utilise ambient air rather than mechanical and energy-intensive solutions whenever possible, while photovoltaic installations on the roof of the building promote the use of renewable energy.
According to Green, the planned district heating system will provide heat for more than 3,500 households, as well as commerce and industry in the region, from waste heat produced by data centre M.
Civil engineering work on the south office building began in January 2023, with a portion of the office space to be used by Green to for the operation of the data centres on-site.
The construction of the N and O facilities is scheduled to follow in 2023.
