Penta Infra, a European core and edge colocation provider, along with lead investor Photon Capital, has announced the acquisition of the newly-constructed Nexus data centre campus in Brussels.
The acquisition, which was made from real estate investor and developer Ghelamco, brings Penta Infra’s presence across Europe to 11 cities across five countries.
The Nexus data centre, located in the Green Energy Park in Zellik, northwest Brussels, officially opened last month. This nine-storey facility was developed in collaboration with the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (Free University of Brussels) and the Universitair Ziekenhuis Brussel (Brussels University Hospital).
The facility offers a 7.2 MW IT load supported by a 12.5 MVA renewable power feed. Built across 10,000 sqm, it will accommodate the VSC Flemish Supercomputer.
The site operates on 100% renewable energy, has an optimised Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE) design, and features a photovoltaic facade capable of generating up to 0.5 MW. Additionally, it incorporates rainwater recuperation for cooling and a thermal smart grid for 100% heat reuse.
“We are delighted to add this brand new ultra-sustainable facility to our portfolio as Penta Infra BRU01,” said Bob Sprengers, Penta Infra CEO. “Brussels is at the heart of both Europe and the data-intensive FLAP hubs, and this beautifully-designed facility is the perfect flexible platform for digital growth. Its exceptional sustainability credentials also make it a perfect fit for our low impact, 100% renewable-powered portfolio.”
Michael Gheysens, Managing Director of Ghelamco Belgium, added, “We are very proud of what we have achieved in developing this facility along with our partners. It is innovative and progressive, we are confident it provides a valuable blueprint for next generation sustainable data centre design. For Ghelamco this is the first of many data centres we will develop internationally, and we feel it is a perfect match for an experienced and environmentally-responsible colocation provider like Penta Infra.”
This acquisition marks a significant step for Penta Infra in expanding their sustainable and high-performance data centre offerings across Europe.
