Texas-based Data Journey has acquired a former Bed Bath & Beyond data centre in western North Carolina.
The Catawba County data centre has been converted from a purpose-built enterprise site into a colocation facility.
Originally built in 2013 at a cost of $36.8 million, the Tier III data centre is now wholly-owned by Data Journey, offering over 3 MW of critical load. The company has plans to expand the site, with up to 100 MW of power generation to the facility being explored.
The data centre currently hosts Sourceability and two Charlotte-based IT firms, 10X Consulting Group and XOR Group.
Dr. Ishnella Kaur Azad, Co-founder of Data Journey, said that the transformation of the data centre aligns with the company’s strategic plan to invest in mid-scale data centre infrastructure.
“With more than 500 investors, we’re on sound financial footing to expand our footprint in strategic locations across the country,” says Dr. Azad.
“We’re certainly open to welcoming new investors who share our vision and want to be part of this exciting growth journey.”
This acquisition is Data Journey’s second since the company was founded in 2024. The company’s first facility is a former nuclear bomb shelter, located north of Houston, Texas.
