Vertiv has announced a major expansion of its local manufacturing operations in Derry and County Donegal, with several hundred new jobs expected to be created over the next six months.

The recruitment push is aimed at strengthening its electrical switchgear manufacturing capabilities, with output from the North West facilities supporting customers worldwide. Vertiv linked the expansion to accelerating demand for power infrastructure as data centres scale up to support growing digital services and the continued adoption of AI.

The roles will be spread across three Vertiv manufacturing sites in the region: Campsie in Derry, and Burnfoot and Letterkenny in County Donegal. The company said vacancies will cover manufacturing, engineering, quality assurance and wider support functions, with a particular focus on hands-on production roles.

Paul Ryan, President of Vertiv in Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA), noted, “This expansion represents a major vote of confidence in the skilled workforce and business environment of the Northwest region. The expansion of the facilities and creation of these roles in Derry and County Donegal will increase our manufacturing capacity and enable us to deliver critical digital infrastructure at scale and speed.”

Trades roles form the bulk of hiring

Vertiv said most of the new positions will be for electricians, panel wirers, mechanical fitters and general operators, with both full-time and part-time opportunities available. While the company said it offers competitive pay and has recently enhanced its benefits package, it did not provide specific pay rates or a breakdown of roles by location.

The hiring drive will add to Vertiv’s existing workforce across Ireland, which the company put at more than 2,000 employees.
