UK-based Latos targets AI growth

Newly established Latos Data Centres has announced plans to develop 40 data centres across the UK by 2030.

The facilities will include large-scale hyperscale centres and smaller edge data centres to support emerging technologies, including AI.

The company has secured planning permission for its first hyperscale data centre near Cardiff, with construction now underway. The site will span 50,400 sqm and deliver 90 MVA of power. It will operate using 100% renewable energy sourced from the National Grid, supplemented by backup power from the nearby Tremorfa Energy Park.

In addition to its hyperscale projects, Latos plans to roll out modular edge data centres to meet the growing demand for AI applications. These edge facilities, which Latos says can be built and operational within six months on plots as small as 0.3 acres, are designed to process data closer to end users, reducing latency. The company’s edge facilities will support a variety of use cases and can be customised to meet client needs.

Mike Carlin, Founder of Latos Data Centres, said, “The growth of AI means the UK’s data centre map needs to change. Organisations will need more computing power closer to where it is needed, and the ability to specify the exact facilities they need. They also need the peace of mind that comes from working with an experienced partner. Our team has a deep heritage designing and building complex data facilities. We understand better than anyone how best to deliver the infrastructure UK organisations will need.”
