Yondr Group has agreed to sell a majority interest in its hyperscale data centre campus in Slough to pension fund-backed investor GLIL Infrastructure.
Yondr will retain a minority stake in the assets and continue to operate the data centres following completion of the transaction, which remains subject to closing conditions and the relevant approvals. The company expects the deal to close in the coming months.
There are currently two hyperscale data centres located at the Slough campus, but construction on a third facility that will total 40 MW began in February 2025. Once that is constructed, the campus will have a combined capacity of 100 MW.
According to Aaron Wangenheim, Chief Executive Officer at Yondr, the transaction represented another milestone in the company’s long-term growth strategy, allowing it to realise value from an operational asset while remaining involved in its future.
Meanwhile, GLIL is extending its reach into the data centre market. The company was established in 2015 by UK pension funds to invest collaboratively in long-term infrastructure across the UK and Europe. Its investors include LPPI, Greater Manchester Pension Fund, Merseyside Pension Fund, West Yorkshire Pension Fund and workplace pension provider Nest.
The deal will expand GLIL’s digital infrastructure portfolio, which already includes an investment in Cornerstone, the UK’s largest mobile tower company. It also gives the fund exposure to the growing hyperscale data centre market at a time when it’s booming.
Lee Belfield, Investment Director at LPPI and GLIL Infrastructure, noted, “Digital infrastructure is increasingly fundamental to the UK’s economy, and hyperscale data centres are critical to supporting growing demand for cloud services and artificial intelligence. This investment reflects GLIL’s strategy of partnering with high-quality operators to invest in essential infrastructure that delivers resilient, long-term value for our pension fund members.
“Yondr has developed a high-quality asset with a strong operational track record, and we look forward to commencing a long-term partnership with the Yondr team.”
Slough is already one of the UK’s largest and most established data centre clusters, with operators including Equinix, Digital Realty, Iron Mountain, Virtus and Kao maintaining or developing facilities in the area.
Yondr first announced plans for its Slough campus in 2021. The first building entered operation in 2024, while the first phase of the second facility became ready for service in April 2025. The third building is supposed to be completed this year, but there has yet to be confirmation as to when it’ll actually complete.
