AWS re/Start partners with UK recruiter to address IT skills gap

AWS re/Start has teamed up with UK-based recruitment firm Robert Half to help graduates find entry-level cloud roles in the UK.

AWS re/Start offers a free 12-week skills development programme in an effort to support unemployed and underemployed individuals gain entry-level cloud positions, while also helping to address the UK’s tech skills shortage.

The programme provides students with programming, networking, security, and relational database skills, with learning supported by accredited instructors. At the end of the course, learners take the industry-recognised AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner exam – which is paid for by AWS re/Start.

Robert Half will be supporting AWS re/Start by providing UK graduates with further tech training via its e-learning facility, as well as instruction on general employability and soft skills that will ease them into the working environment. The placement organisation will also help find UK-based graduates their first cloud computing roles.

To ensure the training continues to reach as many prospective students as possible, Robert Half will pass back 25% of the placement fees to collaborating organisations.

Tom Golding, Vice President – Strategic Accounts at Robert Half, said: “Cloud computing skills have long been in short supply, and training through the AWS re/Start programme is an excellent way to ensure that businesses can access the skills they need from a wider pool of diverse talent, while creating new opportunities for people from underrepresented groups. Using the insights of our expert recruiters, we can equip graduates with more of the soft skills and knowledge they need as they embark on the first steps of their IT career.”
