Simwood expands LINX presence to Wales

Simwood has announced a new point of presence in Vantage Data Centers’ facility in Cardiff, Wales.

Simwood’s network will now also be visible at LINX Wales, the regional interconnection facility run by the London Internet Exchange (LINX).

The LINX Wales regional interconnection point was launched in 2015 to reduce the dependency on London and other major digital locations.

Via LINX, networks can ‘peer’ with other networks to deliver services to the end-user. This involves routing data or online traffic in a controlled, secure, and redundant manner using Border Gateway Protocol (BGP).

Simwood has been a member of the LINX since 2011, delivering their range of services over LINX’s interconnection points in London and Manchester.

Chief Technical Officer from Simwood Charles Chance said, “We’re pleased to have connected Wales into our network. We have two 10GE ports at LINX Wales now and having a regional presence allows us to meet local networks, content providers and access networks via a single connection. This enables us to deliver even more value and high standard services to our customers.”

David Sandars, UK Business Development Manager for Vantage Data Centers, added, “We are delighted that Simwood has chosen Vantage Data Centers for their ongoing network expansion to deliver high-quality wholesale VoIP services throughout Wales, including for our customers. LINX Wales’ successful relationship with Vantage Data Centers, including its direct point of presence here in the data centre, was certainly advantageous in attracting Simwood to our world-class campus. We are becoming firmly established as a major Internet hub and communications node for Wales and the West of England.”
