Segro further expands Slough campus as its first fully fitted data centre gains planning

Segro is set to further expand its Slough data centre campus, while in Park Royal, West London, the company has received planning permission for its first fully fitted data centre, which it will construct for Pure DC.

The company has operated its data centre campus on the Slough Trading Estate for more than 20 years, with more than 30 facilities already live. The latest data centre is being constructed for an existing client, whose identity remains unknown, but will provide 30,000 sq m of space across three floors of data halls and a roof-level plant deck, with 50MVA of power when fully operational.

Planning permission has already been secured for the construction of the site, thanks to being within the Slough Trading Estate Simplified Planning Zone. Like the company’s other facilities located in Slough, it’ll be a powered-shell building – meaning Segro will deliver the structure and power, while the occupier completes the specialist technical fit-out.

While that ‘powered-shell’ approach is somewhat common for Segro, it’s set to expand its expertise with a new data centre at Premier Park in Park Royal, West London. That’s because it’s planning to deliver its first fully fitted data centre in conjunction with Pure Data Centre Group.

Alongside the announcement of its Slough campus expansion, Segro confirmed it had received planning permission for the new Park Royal data centre, which is planned as a 56MW IT load facility in one of London’s key availability zones, supported by 70MVA of incoming power.

Segro said the Park Royal facility will be built to high sustainability standards and will use closed-loop liquid cooling to help reduce water use.

Andrew Pilsworth, Managing Director of Data Centres and Strategic Partnerships at Segro, noted,  “These two announcements demonstrate further progress in our strategy to execute on the 2.5GW+ opportunity in our powered land bank.

“The critical mass of data centres we have built up at Slough over the last 20 years, together with the Simplified Planning Zone status we have secured there were integral to enabling us to work with an existing customer to expand its campus, while allowing Segro to profitably utilise a relatively small 3.5 acre plot.

“Securing planning committee approval at Premier Park is also an important milestone for both our Pure JV at the site and, more broadly, in the evolution of SEGRO’s fully fitted data centre development strategy.”
